Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طبقی(ṭıbḳı),[1][2][3] from Arabic طِبْقًا(ṭibqan), adverbial accusative of طِبْق(ṭibq, thing that matches in form), it is uncertain if it is derived with the Arabic ـِيّ(-iyy, nisba suffix) or Turkish (possessive suffix).[4]
