From Old Frisian tiān, from Proto-Germanic *teuhaną ‎(to draw, lead, bring, pull, help), from Proto-Indo-European *dewk- ‎(to pull, lead). Cognate with East Frisian tja, Low German tehn, teen, Dutch tijgen, German ziehen.
