Etymology

From Middle English undercasten, equivalent to under- +‎ cast.

Noun

undercast (plural undercasts)

  1. Something viewed from above through another medium, as of clouds viewed from an airplane.
  2. (mining) An air-passage crossing a road in a mine by means of an airtight box or channel beneath it.

Verb

undercast (third-person singular simple present undercasts, present participle undercasting, simple past and past participle undercast)

  1. To allocate the parts in (a play or film) to insufficiently skilled actors.
  2. To throw under or beneath.
