From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Dutch vacuüm, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin vacuum, the substantive neuter of the adjective vacuus (empty); spelt with a diæresis added to specify the trisyllabic pronunciation [ˈvæ.kjuː.əm] (as opposed to the disyllabic * [ˈvæ.kjuːm]).
