Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Hmong *jəŋᶜ (“to be”). Related to Proto-Hmong *ʔɲəŋᴬ (“to be at, to live”) (whence nyob (“to be at, to live”), as well as probably Proto-Mien *ʔjəmᴬ (“to be at, to live”).[1]
