[edit]
  • IPA(key): /ˈoɾale/ [ˈo.ɾa.le]
  • Rhymes: -oɾale
  • Syllabification: ó‧ra‧le

Etymology 1

[edit]

From ora (aphetic form of ahora) + le. Unrelated to the imperative órale (pray!, say!) in etymology 2, though perhaps influenced by it through association. Some other Mexican Spanish exhortative exclamations are proparoxytone imperative forms ending in -le (ándale, apúrale, córrele, etc.).

  2. (Mexico) oh my God, wow, whoa (indicates amazement, astonishment, excitement, surprise, shock, fear)
