Inherited from Byzantine Greek λευτερώνω (leuterṓnō), ἐλευτερώνω (eleuterṓnō), λευθερώνω (leutherṓnō), from Ancient Greek ἐλευθερόω (eleutheróō), ἐλευθερῶ (eleutherô). By surface analysis, λεύτερος (léfteros) +‎ -ώνω (-óno).
