From the stem μαθ- of μαθαίνω (mathaíno, learn) + suffix -εύομαι (compare λαθεύω (lathévo, make mistake).[1][2]

    Den mathéftike típota, to kratoún óloi eptasfrágisto mystikó.

  2. (impersonal, 3rd person singular, especially in simple past tense) to become known, publicised, to be rumoured
