From Middle Persian 𐭠𐭡𐭱𐭠𐭥 (ābšār), equivalent to آب (âb, water) +‎ شار (šâr, pour), see شاریدن (šâridan) for the second part. Compare Northern Kurdish avşirr, daşirr (toilet).
