From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ṣwáṭṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *šwáćš, from Proto-Indo-European *swéḱs. Cognate with Avestan 𐬑𐬴𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬱 (xṣ̌uuaš), Persian شش (šeš), Old Armenian վեց (vecʻ), Tocharian B ṣkas, Old Church Slavonic шесть (šestĭ), Lithuanian šešì, Latin sex, Ancient Greek ἕξ (héx), Old English six (whence English six).
