Cognate with West Frisian jier (“year”), Dutch jaar (“year”), German Jahr (“year”), Swedish år (“year”), Icelandic ári (“year”), Serbo-Croatian jār (“spring”), Ancient Greek ὥρα (hōra, “year, season”), Avestan (yārə, “year”).
