Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Byzantine Greek ἀερίζω (aerízō) from ἀέρ(ας) (aér(as), wind) + -ίζω (-ízō, suffix for verbs). Hellenistic sense of the verb: "be thin as air".[1][2]
