Ancient Greek

Etymology

Uncertain. Traditionally compared with Latin crusta, but there are semantic problems with this connection. Also compare Tocharian B kuraś, Latvian kruvesis, Ukrainian крига (kryha) and Old English hruse. Also see κρύσταλλος (krústallos) and κρυμός (krumós).
