Etymology

From Mediaeval Byzantine Greek φαρμάκιν (pharmákin), from a diminutive *φαρμάκιον of the Ancient Greek φάρμακον (phármakon, poison). Also see the Ancient φαρμάκιον with sense "mild purgative".[1]
