[edit]From Proto-Turkic *bū (“this”). The final -l is an extra determinant element, which is also attested in Kazakh бұл (būl, “this”) and Kyrgyz бул (bul, “this”), as well as in Kyrgyz тигил (tigil, “that”) and Bashkir шул (şul, “that”).
