From Old East Slavic жьлтъ (žĭltŭ), from Proto-Slavic *žьltъ (“yellow”), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *gilˀtas, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰelh₃- (“yellow; gleam; to shine”), whence English yellow.
