Etymology[edit]

A post-Mongol invasion – attested first in the Praying of Daniel the ImmuredTurkic borrowing of a form bōr or būr applied to bay horses, found in Chagatai بور(bōr, bay horse), Turkish mor / مور(violet) or boz / بوز(gray) reconstructed from Proto-Turkic *boŕ, also in Mongolic, Buryat боро (boro, gray) etc., also in Tungusic, Evenki боро (boro, gray) etc., ultimately of Iranian origin equivalent to Middle Persian [script needed] (bwl /bōr/, reddish-brown, bay), Persian بور(bōr).
