Cognate with Ossetian бур(bur, yellow), Sanskrit बभ्रु(babhru, deep-brown, reddish-brown, tawny) and the Old Armenian loanword բորենի(boreni, hyenea). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰebʰru-, reduplicated from *bʰer-(brown); cognate with Proto-Germanic *bebruz.
