Old Armenian
Etymology 1
Probably a Kartvelian borrowing, ultimately from Proto-Kartvelian *ḳar- ~ *ḳr- (“to bind”), whence for example Georgian კრ-ვ-ა (ḳr-v-a, “to bind, join”), შე-ვ-კარ (še-v-ḳar, “I joined”). The verb կարեմ (karem, “to bind, fix, attach, pin; to sew”) was probably borrowed first. For the Kartvelian forms see the standard Kartvelological literature, without the Armenian.[1][2][3]
Compare also Georgian კერვა (ḳerva, “to sew”).
