הִכִּיר • (hikír) (hif'il construction, passive counterpart הוכר / הֻכַּר)
- (transitive) To know (someone), to recognize, to be familiar with (someone or something), to meet.
- הם לא מכירים אף אחד באזור. ― hem lo makirím af ekhád ba'ezór. ― They don't know anyone in the area.
- לא הכרתי אותו, אבל הכרתי את השם שלו. ― lo hikárti otó, aval hikárti et hashém sheló. ― I didn't know him, but I had heard his name.
- מתי הכרת אותה? ― matái hikárt otá? ― When did you first meet her?

- וַיְשַׁלְּחוּ אֶת־כְּתֹנֶת הַפַּסִּים וַיָּבִיאוּ אֶל־אֲבִיהֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ זֹאת מָצָאנוּ הַכֶּר־נָא הַכְּתֹנֶת בִּנְךָ הִוא אִם־לֹא׃
- vay'shal'khú 'et-k'tónet hapasím vayaví'u 'el-'avihém vayom'rú zót matsánu haker-ná hak'tónet bin'khá hí 'im-ló.
wayəšalləḥū ʾeṯ-kəṯṓneṯ happassīm wayyāḇī́ʾū ʾel-ʾăḇīhem wayyōmərū zōṯ māṣā́nū hakker-nā hakkəṯṓneṯ binəḵā hī ʾim-lō. - and they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said: ‘This have we found. Know now whether it is thy son's coat or not.’
- vay'shal'khú 'et-k'tónet hapasím vayaví'u 'el-'avihém vayom'rú zót matsánu haker-ná hak'tónet bin'khá hí 'im-ló.
- (diplomacy, transitive) To recognize (a country or legal entity).
