עַל כֵּן • (al ken)

1. therefore
   • Tanach, Genesis 2:24, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     עַל־כֵּן יַעֲזָב־אִישׁ אֶת־אָבִיו וְאֶת־אִמּוֹ וְדָבַק בְּאִשְׁתּוֹ וְהָיוּ לְבָשָׂר אֶחָד׃

     al-kén ya'azov-'ísh et-avív v'et-imó v'davák b'ishtó v'hayú l'vasár ekhád.
     ʿal-kēn yaʿăzoḇ-ʾīš ʾeṯ-ʾāḇīw wəʾeṯ-ʾimmō wəḏāḇaq bəʾištō wəhāyū ləḇāśār ʾeḥāḏ.

     Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.
