Etymology[edit]

From قطع (to cut) + إشارة (ʔišāra, traffic light).

Verb[edit]

قطع الإشارة (ʔaṭaʕ il-išāra)

  1. (transitive) to run a red light
    لما الشرطي سألني ليش قطعت الإشارة قلتلّه إني ماشفتهاش.
    lamma š-šurti saʔal-ni lēš ʔaṭaʕt il-ʔišāra ʔult-illo ʔinni ma-šufthāš.
    When the police officer asked me why I ran the red light I told him that I didn't see it.
