Etymology[edit]

From Classical Syriac ܝܲܥܩܘܿܒ݂ (yaʿqōḇ), from Biblical Hebrew יַעֲקֹב (yaʿaqōv). Corresponding to Arabic يَعْقُبُ (yaʕqubu, he follows).
