Etymology[edit]

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Doesn't seem to be attested in any etymological dictionaries. This almost seems like Proto-Indo-European *peri (around) + Proto-Iranian *was- (to want, wish), the latter from Proto-Indo-European *weḱ- (to wish) (but the final "s" is missing).”
