[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *kep- (“to bend, curve”), a possibly dialectal combination of Proto-Indo-European *kh₂emp- (“to bend, curve”) + *(s)kamb- (“crooked”) (compare Latin cambiō (“to exchange”), whence English change), the latter (*(s)kamb-) which may be of the same origin as the former (*kh₂emp-). Cognate with Sanskrit चाप (cāpa, “bow, arc”), Sanskrit चपल (capala, “trembling, unsteady, wavering”).[1]
