Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian آواز (āwāz), from Middle Persian ʾwʾz (āwāz), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wṓkʷs. Cognate with Sanskrit वाच् (vā́c) and Latin vōx. Doublet of वाक् (vāk). Compare Assamese আৱাজ (awaz), Bengali আওয়াজ (aōẇaj), Gujarati અવાજ (avāj), Marathi आवाज़ (āvāj̈), Punjabi ਅਵਾਜ਼ (avāz), Kannada ಆವಾಜು (āvāju).
