Etymology
[edit]Two explanations for the name are:
- From an abbreviation of विवेष्टि (viveṣṭi, “to work”) + क्रम (krama, “path, stride”), meaning "worker's stride". For the first element, see Proto-Indo-European *weys- (“to produce”). This is the more accepted etymology.
- From a shortening of विक्रान्त (vikrānta, “victorious”) + रमा (ramā, “Rama”), meaning "victorious Rama." For the first element see Proto-Indo-European *weyk-.
