Etymology[edit]

From Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀭 (sira), from Sanskrit शिरस् (śiras). Compare with Persian سر(sar) (from Middle Persian 𐭫𐭥𐭩𐭱𐭤(sar)) and Avestan 𐬯𐬁𐬭𐬀(sāra). Doublet of सर (sar), सिरा (sirā).
