From Proto-Tai *tiːnᴬ (foot). Cognate with Lao ຕີນ (tīn), ᦎᦲᧃ (ṫiin), Shan တိၼ် (tǐn), Ahom 𑜄𑜢𑜃𑜫 (tin), Bouyei dinl, Zhuang din.
