From Proto-Tai *hoːmᴬ (fragrant). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩉᩬᨾ, Lao ຫອມ, ᦠᦸᧄ (ḣoam), Khün ᩉᩬᨾ, Shan ႁွမ် (hǒam), Zhuang hom.
