From Proto-Tai *kraᴬ (“to seek”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩉᩣ, Lao ຫາ (hā), Lü ᦠᦱ (ḣaa), Tai Dam ꪬꪱ, Shan ႁႃ (hǎa), Tai Nüa ᥑᥣᥴ (xáa), Ahom 𑜁𑜡 (khā) or 𑜁𑜞𑜠 (khra), Zhuang ra, Saek หร่า.
