Etymology[edit]

Reduplication of 乗り, the (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb () (noru).[1] Likely from the senses of “rhythm; tempo”, or perhaps from the derived noun 気乗(きの) (kinori, enthusiasm, interest).
