- 大和言葉, 大和詞: a Japanese word of ancient Japanese origin (as opposed to a word borrowed from Chinese, or composed in Japan from Chinese-derived roots); Japanese songs or poetry (waka); refined diction, especially the language used in the Heian period, 女房詞 (nyōbō kotoba, literally “women's language”), or 女中詞 (jochū kotoba, “the language of court women after the Muromachi period”)
