Etymology
[edit]The spelling, as with most obsolete ateji, is based on pseudo-Mandarin sound values — in this case, 伯剌西爾 would represent *bólàxī'ěr. (The regular Sino-Japanese pronunciation of 伯剌西爾 would be *はくらつせいじ (hakuratsuseiji).)
Proper noun
[edit]- obsolete spelling of ブラジル: Brazil (a large Portuguese-speaking country in South America)
