Etymology

From 摩訶(まか) (maka, itself from Sanskrit महा (mahā), “great”) + 般若(はんにゃ)波羅蜜多(はらみった)心経(しんぎょう) (Hannya Haramitta Shingyō, “Prajñāpāramitā Hṛdaya Sūtra”).
