Etymology

Borrowed from Manchu ᠴᠠᠩᡤᡳ (canggi), from Written Oirat ᡔᠠᡊᡎᡅ (canggi).

Also possibly the same city as the one named 彰八里 (Zhāngbālǐ) in the History of Yuan [14th c. CE], and جَنْبَلِقْ (janbaliq) in Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk [11th c. CE]. The second component of that name was evidently related to Old Turkic 𐰉𐰞𐰶 (balïq, town, city).

Pronunciation

Proper noun

(deprecated template usage) 昌吉

  1. (~回族自治州, ) Changji (a prefecture of Xinjiang, China)
