Proper noun[edit]

(ほん)(しゅう) (Honshūほんしう (fonsiu)?

  1. Honshu, the main island of Japan, with 100 million people, 4/5 of the Japanese population.

Usage notes[edit]

Since Honshu is much bigger and more populous than other islands of Japan, this word isn't used to specify an area in Japan. Smaller area names such as 関東(かんとう) (Kantō) and 関西(かんさい) (Kansai) are used instead.
