Etymology[edit]
Compound of 腰 (koshi) + 抜け (nuke, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 抜ける (nukeru)). From the phrase 腰が抜ける (koshi ga nukeru, “to be unable to stand up”).
