Etymology[edit]

From earlier consonant stem 長く ‎(taku); became vowel stem take- when the conclusive was overtaken by the attributive form which ultimately resulted in the shift from lower bigrade to lower monograde conjugation class. Cognate with ‎(taka, height), 高い ‎(takai, high, tall), ‎(take, height), ‎(take, peak).
