First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459 as Middle Korean ᄀᆞᅀᆞᆯ (kozor) (connective form: ᄀᆞᅀᆞᆶ (kozorh)) (compare dialectal forms (gal, Gangwon/Chungcheong/Pyeongan), 가슬 (gaseul, Hamgyeong), 가실 (gasil, Gyeongsang/Jeolla) 가슭 (gaseul, Gangwon), and Jeju ᄀᆞ실 (gᆞsil) andᄀᆞ울 (gᆞul)).[1]
