Etymology

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄉᆡᇰ〮각〮ᄒᆞ다〮 (Yale: sóyngkák-hòtá).

From 생각 (saenggak, thought; idea) +‎ 하다 (-hada, to do, light verb deriving active verbs).
