Etymology

The o vowel of future-tense -os plus the nt of the Latin/Romance active present participle.

Suffix

-ont-

  1. (nominal) -onto One who will do the action of the root
    Example: ami (to love), amonto (one who is to love)
  2. (adjectival) -onta The active future participle
    Example: ami (to love), amonta (about to love)
  3. (adverbial) -onte The active future adverbial participle
    Example: ami (to love), amonte (being about to love)
