Etymology
According to the traditional explanation a derivation from the root विवेष्टि (√viṣ, “to pervade”), thus originally meaning "All-pervader" or "Worker".
Related to विवेष्टि (viveṣṭi, “to work”), both from Proto-Indo-European *weys- (“to produce”).
