Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *sáźʰatay, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sáȷ́ʰatay, from Proto-Indo-European *seǵʰ- (to hold, overpower). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἔχω (ékhō).
