From Old Galician and Old Galician-Portuguese queixada (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from queixo (“chin”), from Latin *capseum (“box-like”), from capsa (“box”), from capiō (“I capture, I seize, I take”), from Proto-Indo-European *keh₂p- (“to take, seize, catch, grasp”). Cognate with Portuguese queixada and Spanish quijada.
