English

Etymology

From international scientific vocabulary, from New Latin adipōsus, from Latin adeps (fat, lard); surface analysis, adip- +‎ -ose; Latin adeps (fat, lard) is probably related to Umbrian 𐌀𐌛𐌄𐌐𐌄𐌔 (ařepes, offerings of fat) since 𐌛 (ř) in Umbrian regularly represents an earlier *d.
