Etymology
[edit]Coined by Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist Carl Linnaeus in 1753, from Ancient Greek Ἀγαύη (Agaúē, “Agave”), from ἀγαυός (agauós, “noble, illustrious”). Doublet of Agaue.
