From Cornish Jago, from Latin Iācōbus (James), from Ancient Greek Ἰάκωβος (Iákōbos), from Hebrew יַעֲקֹב (ya‘ăqṓḇ, Jacob, literally he will/shall heel), from עָקֵב (‘āqḗḇ, heel) and the Biblical account of the patriarch Jacob's birth in Genesis 25:26.
