1. A cultural sphere or zone.
   • 1843, Heinrich Berghaus, Grundriss der Geographie, page 1002:

     Dadurch sind alle diese Völkerschaften, die überdem nur durch Dialekt-Verschiedenheit der Sprache getrennt sind, in einen Kulturkreis getreten, der von Einem Mittelpunkt die Gemeinschaft von National-Interessen erstrebt hat.

     All of these peoples, which are moreover divided only by dialectal differences of language, have thus entered into a cultural sphere that has aspired to the commonality of national interests from a single central point.
