[edit]The Chuvash form points to the front-ablauted variant *kiŕil.
Etymology
[edit]From *kï̄ŕ- (“to redden”) with secondary shortening or from the homophonous word *kï̄ŕ with similar development found in *yāĺïl (“green”) < *yāĺ (“young vegetables”).
